Interested applicants may register for the tenth class of the Orquesta Escuela in March and April 2013. Specific dates will be announced shortly.

Bandoneón players, violists, violinists, cellists, double bassists and pianists, 35 years of age and under, are encouraged to apply for admission to the Orquesta Escuela. Past experience with tango is not required.

Applicants can register in person at the City Music Department offices (Dirección de Música de la Ciudad), 963 Alsina Street, second floor. Telephone, fax and email registration is also accepted at mba@buenosaires.gov.ar or +54 (11) 4331-4044 or +54 (11) 4331-4042. Please give your first and last name, telephone number, email address, home address, date of birth, ID number (for foreign applicants, passport number), and musical instrument.

Once you have registered, you will receive sheet music from the work intended to be performed at the audition, as well as a confirmation of registration.

When the registry period has ended, the Music Department will contact registrants to inform them of their audition date, time and location.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following audition requirements:

-Performance of a piece of the applicant’s choosing which demonstrates his or her technical and interpretive abilities. The piece may be selected from the popular or classical musical repertoire.

-Performance of the music provided to the applicant.

For the entrance exam, musicians may download PDFs of sheet music for La Bordona (by Emilio Balcarce) and Danzarín (by Julián Plaza), using the Orquesta Escuela’s own arrangements.

Special note for pianists: in addition to the required piece, it is recommended (although not obligatory) to prepare as an optional piece "Don Agustín Bardi" by Horacio Salgán.
